The General Assembly
of the Oceania National Olympic Committee met in Brisbane,
Australia, this past week for their annual meeting and
election of Officers and Executive Committee Members.
Kevan
Gosper, (Aus) ONOC's four-term President was reelected to
another four-year-term. Also retaining his seat as secretary
general was Dr. Robin Mitchell (FIJ).
The General
Assembly supported Guam in a big way this election as Ricardo
Blas was successful in regaining the position of vice
president after losing to Sir John Dawanincura (PNG) four
years ago. Dawanincura lost his bid for ONOC's president to
Gosper this year. In the 2001 election Guam held on to a
position on the Executive Committee when Blas was elected a
member.
Mitchell and Blas ran unopposed in this
year's election.
