Governor Felix Perez Camacho proclaims May 22, 2003 as "National Maritime Day"

Proclaiming May 22, 2003 as 
"National Maritime Day"
 

 

On Wednesday May 21, 2003, Bill King, director of the United Seamen's Service was joined by CDR Bob Kennedy, Norma Pillman & Frances Toves Booker from the Military Sealift Command Office for the presentation and signing of Proclamation No.2003-44, by Governor Felix Perez Camacho proclaiming  May 22, 2003 as "National Maritime Day."

"Whereas, in 1993, pursuant to a joint congressional resolution, the President of the Unites States issued a proclamation designating May 22 of each year as National Maritime Day..."

The proclamation highlighted significant contributions of the Merchant Marines especially those who lost their lives in WWII, and other conflicts as well as the service and valor they demonstrated in the Korean, Vietnam and Persian Gulf conflicts.

Camacho also recognized the 54th anniversary of the Propeller Club of Guam in the proclamation, pointing out that it is one of 57 throughout the country.

"Whereas, the Propeller Club of the United States, with 57 clubs throughout the country, celebrates this day with many different functions..."

Of the recognition Camacho said in the proclamation, "In so doing, I encourage all island residents to recognize and honor the men and women, who have served out country faithfully and wholeheartedly."

The proclamation was sealed with the Great Seal of Guam and signed by Camacho and countersigned by
Lieutenant Governor

Wednesday May 21, 2003: CDR Bob Kennedy accepts a Maritime Day Proclamation from Governor Felix P. Camacho.  Kennedy is commander of the Military Sealift Command Office Guam.

To Kennedy's right is Norma Pillman- MSCO, and to the Governor's left are  Bill King-director United Seamen Service  & Frances Toves Booker-MSCO.
