Naming the Baby
We were watching a Katherine Hepburn interview
on television one afternoon and Kate was asked to describe Spencer
Tracy. After Kate said his name out loud, Bob and Tara simultaneously turned
toward me and I responded, "Yes." We decided then the name Spencer was a
keeper. They smiled in agreement and were relieved the naming process was
over. When I filled in the Public Heath application for the birth
certificate before we left the hospital, Tara came to visit and noticed that
I spelled the name with an "s" rather than a "c". She filed her protest, "Mom, Spencer is
spelled with a "c" not an "s". "S" is used for things that dispense, not a
name. I wasn't that concerned so I told her she could change the spelling if
she desired. Later when I did research on the origin and meaning of the name
Spencer, I discovered the dispensing of the matter was proper.

He is a keeper with a lot of charm.
Maybe he'll grow up to be a good pitcher like his father.

Spencer Arthur Santos Steffy
Born: May 31, 1995
Time: 2:15 a.m.
Weight: 9 lbs. 13 oz.
Length: 23 inches |

From as early as he was able, Spencer insisted on doing things for
himself. This photo is an example of his independence. He has to wear a
collared shirt and tie to the Kingdom Hall. Maybe its not how I like it,
but it worked for him. |
