Senators Lou Leon Guerrero & Toni Sanford read a scriptural passage from the 1908 Francis Marion Price diglot edition of the Chamorro/English Bible. The Bible they are reading drom though the display case was donated to MARC by Susan Gay Kirk. Joseph Cameron sets up a photo display prepared for the presentation. Photos in the display were donated by Harold Allen, president of the University of Guam, some were found in research by Clarence Thomas VI andothers are partt of the Rlene"Live" Production Collection. Senator Muna-Barnes delivers the historical background of the 1908 Chamorro/English Bible's translation & publication effort. The Senator highlighted the discovery of the Bible at a Yale University Library, its historic journey and brief stay on Guam and the promotion of the discovery and republication effort. Present to assist Senator Muna-Barns in presenting the resolutions were (L-R) Senator Carmen Fernandez, Speaker Ben Pangelinan, Senators Toni Sanford, Rory Respicio, Joanne Brown, Robert Klitzkie, Jesse Lujan and John Quinata. Vice Speaker Frank Aguon was present but not shown in this photo. The donation was made by Jame's daughter, Susan Gay Kirk. Speaker Ben Pangelinan talked about a time when Chamorros were ancestral worshipers and the impact outside nations and their religions had on the Chamorros. His switched his speech between Chamorro and English to get his message across to the multilingual crowd. KUAM's Marissa Eusebio interviewed Art White, Branch Coordinator for Jehovah's Witnesses in Barrigada. White is holding the first republication of the 1908 Chamorro Bible published on Guam in hard back. Friends, family, and supporters of the Taitano - Gay family and members of religous organizations on Guam fill the Public Hearing room anticipating the presentation. Senators Fernandez & Sanford stand in front of the photo display greeting guests as they arrived for the presentation. No. 87 (LS): “Relative to acknowledging and recognizing the late Reverend Francis Marion Price and those who assisted him and contributed to the translation of the Gospels, Psalms, and Acts of the Apostles of the Holy Bible into the Chamorro language.”
Taling Taitano is joined by her cousins, Pastor Robert Murphy to her left, Jospehine Sablan and Lynda Taitano Reyes behind her and niece Bella Taitano Flores in accepting the resolution. JayLawrence Cruz congratulates the crowd for the many accomplishments. The Public Hearing room was filed to capacity for the presentation of resolutions. Guests included many proud members of the Taitano and Gay families and members of religous organizations that have been established on Guam since the 1900's. Madison and Dolly Packbier were the youngest members of the Taitano Family present for the presentation of the resolutions. Madison is 11th generation Taitano (Budoki) and a direct decendent of Dolores Mendiola Taitano, the sister of Jose Mendiola Taitano. Pastor Jano describes his feelings about the Chamorro Bible project and announces the fundraising effort for the republication of the Chamorro Bible. Lola Sablan and a friend enjoy the historic information regarding the Chamorro Bible history from reading the resolution. Senator Respicio reads the introduction to Resolution No. 88 (LS). Sanator Sanford introduces Resolution No. 88 before it was presented to the members of the Taitano-Gay family. The grandson of Elmer Lee and Ana San Nicolas Taitano accepts the resolution in behalf of the Taitano-Gay Family. Senator Joanne Brown presents Resolution No. 89 (LS) to the translators, researchers and promoters of the Chamorro Bible. Many woman are recognized for their work in the discovery, reemergence, research and promotion of the 1908 Chamorro Bible. Resolution No. 89 (LS) reads: “Relative to acknowledging and recognizing those who contributed to the discovery, reemergence, and promotion of the 1908 Chamorro translation of the Gospels, Psalms, and Acts of the Apostles of the Holy Bible, commonly known as the “Chamorro Bible,” and to extending a heartfelt “dangkolo na si Yu’os ma’åse’” for their tremendous contributions to preserving Guam’s precious heritage, history, and language.” Senator Muna-Barnes poses with members of the Seventh-day Adventists Church and staff of their radio station, Joy 92. Josephine and her husband Associated Pastor Alfred Sablan of the Baptist Church in Agana Heights watch as Senator Muna-Barnes read the history of the Chamorro Bible. Taling Taitano and her cousins Josephine Sablan and Linda Taitano Reyes accept a resolution for the contribution their family members made to the effort of translating and publishing the Chamorro Bible in 1908.
